OKAY...I
have been going crazy trying to attach some meaning into The Weeknd's recent
three music videos from his new album “Beauty Behind the Madness" entitled
" The Hills", " Can't feel my Face" and " Tell your
Friends." The Weeknd is a 25 year old Canadian singer, originally from
Ethiopia.
The
Weeknd's real name is Abel Tesfaye and he was discovered by Drake on YouTube
(much like Bieber and Usher). The Weeknd is known for his lyrics that never
leave out drugs, woman and sex. I personally think that he is the more subtle
Trey Songz with the exception of the fact that Trey Songz' videos never have a
hidden meaning, you always know when you hear Trey's song that that video will
have exactly what you think and what the lyrics talk about.
The
Weeknd's videos are never much work, they are pretty simple but Lord...THEY ARE
NEVER CONNECTED TO WHAT HE IS SINGIGN ABOUT, especially these particular three
songs. The is always an underlying meaning to them which will probably take you
decades to understand if the internet did not exist but THANK GOD...Now, The
Weeknd first dropped " The Hills", a video about him having an affair
with a married woman and her wanting to
keep things discreet and him not wanting to., " Can't Feel my Face"
is about loving drugs so much, knowing the consequences of using drugs but
still loving the feeling they give him ( pretty dangerous right...), the last
song that completes his trilogy series
is " Tell Your Friends", and it tells
the tale of where he was often homeless and dabbling with drugs,
meaningless sex and petty theft.
I
did not notice the pattern until I started going through the comments of the
videos. This prompted me to watch the videos in the chronological order in
which they were dropped and then I was like “damn...this might actually be for
real". And then I GOOGLED and then
I realised that there might actually be a story behind these videos which would
explain why some of us were confused as to what in the world are his videos
about...Now. I did not come up with this information all on my own...it took a
few seconds of paging through the internet to support what the other blogs were
saying. The primary source of this information is

(be sure to click on the link to get additional information concerning the
trilogy).
So,
the most important thing to note concerning the videos is the continued
appearance of the red haired man that seems to look like Caitlyn Jenner. The
man first appears in the Video “The Hills" in the red room holding a red
apple (a forbidden fruit-Genesis) with the two ladies that appeared at the
beginning of the video. The red man has been associated with the devil himself
that is there to make a deal with The Weeknd. In " Can't Feel my
Face", the video starts with the crowd at the club bored of the song that
The Weeknd is singing but then after the red haired man lights him up with his
lighter, the crowd dances and sings along to his song. In the Video '' Tell
your Friends", The Weeknd buries himself alive, he then dances on his
grave and the red man appears, walking straight to him and The Weeknd shoots
him twice and he falls, therefore dying. The meaning behind the videos can be
said to be that The Weeknd starts his journey on " The Hills" where
he is seen emerging out of a burning black car that is upside down, where he
then walks into a mansion, starting with the white room (symbolising his
purity), he then walks into a red room (symbolising blood, danger or the devil)
where he finds the red haired man with the apple. At that point, it can be said
that the red haired man was there to strike a deal with him.
In
“Can’t Feel my Face", The Weeknd is seen performing his song at a little
club where the crowd seems to be not enjoying his song despite his cool moves
that resemble Michael Jackson's. A woman throws a drink at him and then the red
haired man lights up his cigarette and then throws the lighter at the Weeknd,
therefore lighting The Weeknd altogether. The crowd then starts dancing and the
crowd loosens up, dances to his song. This can be seen to be the point where
The Weeknd accepts the deal with the devil in order to be famous. The last
video " Tell Your Friends", the video starts with a fire at a
distance in an abandoned hilly place, The Weeknd walks with a spade ready to
bury the man in the grave (the man is covered with a plastic in his face, and
the man is The Weeknd himself), the red man appears and the Weeknd shoots him,
This can be said to be the Weeknd burying the famous person he became after the
deal and letting of the fame he wanted.
I
don't know if this makes any sense or not but then to me...it surely did
explain the videos that never make sense. Comment and tell me what you think of
these videos and what your findings are. Do you think that The Weeknd was
telling the story of him making a deal with the devil and then turning his back
on the devil after realising he no longer cares about fame?
